They haven’t been functioning due to cables being stolen and the electricity supply being disconnected following the collapse of the quay. Unfortunately due to the economics involved in repairing the quay, funding is simply not available from the Harbour Commissioners to repair and reinstate the lighting at present. However, Northumberland County Councils Regeneration team are currently looking into replacing the lighting on the pier through funds ring fenced from former Alnwick District Council for specific projects in Amble. My daughter and I walk around the pier most nights, usually assisted by torchlight which isn't ideal, and there are many other people who do the same. The pier and Little Shore area are used by lots of people after dark, i.e. dog walkers, parents and their children and also fishermen on the pier. If the lights were switched on the route would be much safer, and I'm sure many more people would use the route also if it was illuminated.
